Wedding Speeches for the Father of the Bride
The day has finally arrived when you give away your daughter’s hand in marriage to a suitable man. It is a day of mixed emotions. On the one hand, you are happy for your daughter having found someone she loves and on the other hand, you are sad since she is leaving your house. Many people find it difficult on such occasions to make wedding speeches (father of the bride especially).
The bride’s father is usually considered to be the host for the wedding and it is a great moment when he is about to deliver his speech. Everyone, especially the bride is very eager to listen to what her father has to say. (Also read our article on rehearsal dinner toasts).
It is not required that your speech be funny and amusing. Leave that for the best man to handle. Your role is to handle the formalities. Begin by thanking all the guests that have come to attend the wedding. Some may have come from different parts of the world keeping their busy schedules aside. Then extend your thanks to all the people who have organized the event so well.
Share your feelings about how it feels to be the father of the bride. You can recount some of the conversations you have had with your daughter regarding her marriage, how good a daughter she has been and how happy you are to see her getting married. You can tell the guests how she met her husband and how things went on to the point of getting married. Talk about their future plans like where they are going to settle down and what they plan to do for a living. In many wedding speeches the father of the bride also gives some words of advice for a successful marriage.
Finally, propose a toast to the happy future of the couple and wish everyone a great time at the celebrations to follow.
