Bridesmaid Speech
The bridesmaid performs an important support function in the wedding. She helps out with the planning and organizing of various events like pre-wedding parties, sending out invitations and shopping for the wedding. She plays a crucial role in making sure everything is going as per plan and schedule. It is rare for bridesmaids to be asked to make a speech but if it is a case with you, then you better get started. (see our article on a bride wedding speech).
A bridesmaid speech can be witty, emotional, serious or plain vanilla depending on what you want to make of it. It should gel with your personality. So be your natural self and do not go for any public speaking classes at the last moment. The best bridesmaid speech is one that is simple and straight-forward. Say all the good things about the bride and the groom. Thank the bride to have given you the opportunity to be a bridesmaid and wish both the bride and the groom a wonderful married life.
If you are having trouble, then refer to some books on wedding speeches. That will give you some ideas. Otherwise browse the Internet which has innumerable sites with sample speeches and tips for speech writing. You can even get help from friends who have been a bridesmaid before.
Try to memorize your speech for easy delivery. You must not fumble and mumble in front of the large gathering. If you forget something, just think on your feet and say something appropriate. Keep the speech short – not more than two to three minutes. You can make your speech unique by including some nice quotes about marriage like - Marriage is an investment which pays dividends if you pay interest or a witty advice to the bride - The best way to get most husbands to do something is to suggest that perhaps they’re too old to do it.
